The Battle Against Pride

July 24, 2025

I ask God to prepare my heart before I read and summarize God’s word,

Today’s Devotion is from Our Daily Inspirations App, titled “The Battle Against Pride,” authored by Erica Cosgrove. Today’s key verse is Matthew 6:3-4: “But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that, your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly”

Erica says that pride may be one of life’s biggest challenges. It can wiggle its way into many situations without anyone recognizing it as pride. Jesus warns us not to go around proclaiming everything we have done in service to other people (Matthew 6:1-2). Jesus takes this further in Matthew 6:3-4, warning us not to flatter ourselves.

Jesus wants us to turn our attention to Him. He challenges us to quietly give ourselves in service to Him and to others, knowing that He notices everything.

To concluded, though the world may not recognize us for what we do, Jesus does. He promises that the Father, Himself, will reward us openly.

Reflections for us: How often do you tell God, “Where You go, I will go; and where You stay, I will stay?” Ruth 1:16.

This is my response, which might differ from yours: Every day, I tell God in my heart and in my actions that where He goes, I will go; and where He stays, I will stay.

A personal prayer for us: Holy Lord, we want to run toward you. We want to willingly follow You anywhere. Help us follow You today, and always. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
